Community Activities

Jim Keithly Jim Keithly, Community Director
Community Activities is concerned with the Knights of Columbus as a service organization.
The Pro-Life Committee persistently supports pro-life causes. Its premier event is the Roses for Life collection, occured last year on January 5 - 6, 2008 and provides everyone an opportunity to express their pro-life view to their Congressional representatives. Members wishing to volunteer should contact the director.

In 2008, the Roses for Life drive collected, along with a bag full of signed roses, over $300. These funds supported Allison Rohman and Rachel Lee, who as usual made the trip to Washington to personally deliver our roses.

The Charity Committee evaluates all of the many requests for charitable support the Council receives every month. The Council can only support a few, so the committee makes receommendations to the membership.

In June, 2008, $100 was donated to the Chris Stall Memorial.

In May, 2008, $100 was donated for the purchase of bibles at Fr. Leonard Wood.

In January, 2008, $150 was donated to the Little Sisters of the Poor.

In December, 2007, the Council donated $700 to the Society of St. Vincent dePaul in support of their Christmas outreach. $500 was given to the chapter at All Souls, and the remainder to the St. Rita's chapter. We received a thank you note from Dennis Gale, a Knight from our Council and president of the Society at St. Rita.

In October, 2007, $200 was donated to Marygrove Childrens' Center for Christmas gifts for the children.

Every year, the MR Drive collects funds to support the Knights of Columbus Developmental Center at SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center. The center treats children with a wide range of developmental disabilities, including autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. It is supported in large part by funding from the Knights in Missouri and Illinois. In 2007, the Council collected $2852.79 for the center, an increase of 20% over the 2006 total of $2368.50. The 2007 campaign was held on October 12 - 14.

In addition to Council events, the following programs are supported by the State Council:
  • Prison Concerns. Agape House is a resting place for families visiting their relatives in prisons in and around Jefferson City. Each Council is asked to give $50 to support this ministry.
  • Interested in joining a commitee? Please contact the chairman!
