The Knights operate under a hierarchy of degrees. A member is initiated into the first degree of the Knights of Columbus. Upon taking part in respective Second, Third, and Fourth degree exemplifications, a Knight rises to that status. The content of the degree exemplifications is the only part of the Knights of Columbus which is secret.

The principle of the first degree is Charity; the principle of the second degree is Unity; the principle of the third degree is Fraternity; and the principle of the fourth degree is Patriotism. There are only four degrees. Each principle is emphasized in each of the exemplification ceremonies.

Upon reaching the third degree, a gentleman is considered a full member of the Knights of Columbus, and is eligible to hold office in his Council. Fourth degree members, in addition to their membership in their local Councils, are members of larger groups called Assemblies.

On March 8, 2008, Chancellor Dick Riley, Community Director Jim Keithly, and Jerry Wolosyk attended an Exemplification of the Fourth Degree, and were named Sir Knights. Please extend your congratulations to Dick, Jim and Jerry.

In May 2008, new members Patrick Cordia, sponsored by Financial Secretary Terry Cordia attended an Exemplification of the First Degree. Please extend your congratulations and a warm welcome to Patrick.
